<\/a>Overview<\/h5>\n

This course focuses on the intersection of education and gender, drawing on interdisciplinary research in global development and gender studies. It examines theoretical perspectives, policies, and strategies for making education more equitable globally.<\/p>\n

Learning Objectives<\/p>\n

In this course, participants will:<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Reflect on their own gendered educational experiences.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Question normative assumptions concerning the role of gender in education.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Analyze educational approaches and practices that reflect diverse conceptions of gender in relation to education.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Develop a presentation about a global issue in gender and education for an audience of peers.<\/p>\n

Key Assignment<\/p>\n

Participants will develop a 3-part gender and education autobiographical study:<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Educational autobiography<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Educational biography (based on interviews)<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Global analysis of gendered educational biographies<\/p>\n

Teaching Philosophy<\/p>\n

This course builds on pedagogical approaches that rely on course participants \u201cclaiming their education<\/em>\u201d by practicing initiative, collaboration, responsibility and empowerment with respect to their own learning process.<\/td>\n
